OZEV grants are changing in 2022

OZEV grants are changing in 2022
Significant changes are taking place in the Office for Zero-Emission Vehicles (OZEV) home and workplace charge point schemes next year. As we reported earlier this year, the new criteria comes into force on 1 April 2022 and has major implications for homeowners, landlords and small business owners, especially in the accomodation sector.

The headline amendments are to the eligibility criteria for the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) and Homecharge Grant Scheme (EVHS). From 1 April next year the WCS will be available to B&Bs, small accommodation businesses, SMEs, charities and owners of commercially let premises. This will mean, for example, that the owner of a holiday cottage can claim up to £350 off the cost of a charging socket, and it can be used by guests staying on the premises; previously they could only claim if the charge point was being used by their own staff.

Landlords, social housing providers and owners of apartment blocks can also now claim an EVHS grant. This is a major change and will take the sole responsibility for installing a chargepoint in an apartment away from individual flat owners. The Homecharge Grant will also cease to be available for house owners with off-street parking - it can still be claimed by people who rent their homes or those who live in flats.

OZEV have also announced that the grant scheme will be administered through a new online system, rather than the paper-based process that is currently in place.

Jim Rugg, Head of Replenishh, said of the changes: "The fact that OZEV is removing the EVHS grant for homeowners with off-street parking shows the first real sign that this area of the market can begin to stand on its own two feet. Yes, this will require a business strategy rethink for a lot of key stakeholders in this particular section of the market including our Installation partners, suppliers, regulators, training providers, industry experts as well as Replenishh ourselves."

"The opportunity centres around how we can ensure the best possible experience for the EV drivers in going Electric, and this requires building upon existing as well as developing new strategic partnerships with OEM’s, Fleet Mobility, Car Dealership, Leasing companies, Renewable technology experts amongst other solution providers in e-mobility. With the other opportunities associated with the OZEV schemes, including the continuation of the WCS grant, and introduction of the Multi-Residential EVHS grant among other interesting government incentives, the future for the market is going to be very exciting."

"Replenishh is ready to play a key role in the Electrification of the UK’s EV Charging Infrastructure, as there’s still a long way to go!"
