Luxury Lodge Park in Cornwall Makes EV Charging Easy for Clients

Replenishh, in conjunction with EO Charging, has recently supplied 60 EO Mini Pro 3 Smart EV charge points to Energy Park for a high-volume installation project at two luxury holiday lodge resorts in Cornwall, operated by Charteroak.

Energy Park, a specialist design, installation and management provider of smart EV charging networks in the UK, commissioned Berkeley Installation to carry out the onsite fitting of all 60 smart charge points at Charteroak’s luxury lodge parks in the Southwest.

As a leading B2B distributor of EV charging equipment, the team at Replenishh feels this is a superb example of how specialist companies in the energy and EV charging supply network come together to complete eco-friendly projects to support clients’ ‘green’ initiatives.

Smart-thinking Charteroak catering for clients’ electric car needs

Charteroak realised the growing need for destination chargers in their holiday parks, with many visitors now owning electric cars. Charteroak want to give them the reassurance of knowing they have access to EV charging facilities, which in this case are sited directly outside their holiday lodge parking spaces, without having to rely on public charging stations, which is more challenging in rural counties such as Cornwall.

Travelling to a public charging station can be time-consuming, expensive, unpredictable and not always that close by. And, as anyone who drives an electric car will know, that feeling of ‘range anxiety’ is certainly something you don’t want to experience when trying to relax on your holiday!

Key to the brief from Charteroak was that the smart charge points had to blend in with the natural surroundings, and the natural design themes of each luxury lodge. This stipulation meant they needed to be as discreet as possible, and the compact EO Mini Pro 3 met the criteria perfectly.

Laney Thompson, General Manager at Charteroak stated: We decided to install EV chargers because a large majority of our clientele now have electric cars. It is the way the market is going. Given our location in Cornwall, it was the perfect next development step for us, and will make a huge difference. It means that our customers do not have to plan in where to stop to charge their cars, and they will not have to lose hours of their holiday going off to charging points that are miles away. It allows them to have that peace of mind of being able to enjoy themselves, without the inconvenience of having to travel off site to charge their cars.

EO Mini Pro 3 charge point installation was a ‘walk in the park’

Matt, an electrician for Berkeley Installations working with Energy Park, was involved in the install project, and he was full of praise for the EO Mini Pro 3, describing the Chargepoint as being, very easy to install.

He has great enthusiasm for the profession, saying that he highly recommends more electricians consider a move to EV charging installations, especially when you can work in the great outdoors at some wonderful locations such as Charteroak resorts in Cornwall. This is a sentiment reiterated by Louis Whittlock, Senior Electrician for Berkeley Installations, saying: Becoming a trained EV Charging installer is a smart move, with a lot of potential work predicted in the near future, as more motorists make the transition to electric cars.

Gavin Malone, co-founder of Energy Park, said: A key aspect from our client’s perspective was implementing a solution whilst still operating as an active resort with holiday makers. They required OCPP functionality so that it could be managed by a system like they have, and a discreet model that blends into the environment. So, the EO Mini Pro 3 was chosen in the knowledge that the technical support from EO has always been incredible. It’s also a small, discreet solution that is easy to use, and doesn’t take up a lot of space; one that blends in and works really well with their platform.

He adds: The guys at Replenishh have been on hand to supply the materials and equipment when we have needed it, and the turnaround times have been great.

Laney Thompson sums up the project: The installation was seamless and very professional. The team has been really courteous to all of our holiday guests. They were conscious of being in a holiday park, and mindful of creating noise or any disturbance. I would say this was the perfect installation.

EO Mini Pro 3 Compact Smart Charger

The EO Mini Pro is the latest EV charging station from EO’s Mini Pro range and the successor of the Mini Pro 2. Compact, it is about the size of an A5 notebook with clean and contemporary design aesthetics, that make it less conspicuous in appearance. ‘Small, but mighty’, it is a game changer because of its size, power output, smart app and safety features, and is available in both tethered and untethered options with a type 2 socket. With powerful connectivity, it comes with different options, including built-in WiFi, Bluetooth, Ethernet or 4G with SIM.

Jim Rugg, Head of Replenishh, explains why it was the ideal option for Charteroak: We have been delighted to support this project in partnership with EO and Energy Park. The EO Mini Pro 3 was the perfect choice for this type of installation. Compact and discreet in size, the design looks smart and sophisticated, complementing the style of the luxury lodges and the natural environment around them. But it is practical and straightforward to install too, and makes EV charging ‘smart’ in every sense of the word. There are tethered options, but for holiday parks the socket-based solution works especially well. The EO Mini Pro 3 comes with a wall mount option but can be on a pedestal; at Charteroak they have opted for a backplate. At the base there is an EV Block mini; a precast concrete component that makes life a lot easier, allowing installers to swiftly position and route the cable into the charge point, and power out from there.

He continues, On the site, they maximised the ethernet and Wi-Fi function of the charge points to optimise the charging experience bringing intelligent and smart connected functionality. In 2022, it became mandatory in Great Britain that all new EV charge points must have smart functionality and comply with specific device level requirements.

Safety is of course always a priority. The EO Mini Pro 3 smart EV charger has got pen fault detection included. This means you don’t need additional earth protection at the supply source; the ChargePoint also has DC leakage protection.

As an installer, you need RCD protection type A. We always recommend surge protection on the EV charge points as well.
