Becoming an OZEV-authorised installer enables you to start installing charge points under Government schemes such as the Workplace Charging Scheme. Being a member of the Authorised Installer list allows chargepoint customers across the UK to locate and contact OZEV-authorised installers for chargepoint enquiries. When you have been given ‘Authorised Installer’ status, you will automatically be added to this list.

What information do you need to give to become OZEV-authorised?
You must provide all information requested in the Authorised Installer application. If any information is missing, then OZEV, or its representatives, will return your application and ask for the missing details. Then OZEV, or its representatives, will process applications and confirm if your application has been successful by email.

You must provide your:
  • Company name
  • Location of UK head office
  • Bank account details (bank account name, account number and sort code)
  • Competent Person Scheme name and number or Electrical Contracting Association (ECA) membership number
  • Email address and phone number – for contact by OZEV and Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA)

Membership and Accreditation
Ensure membership with recognised associations such as the Electrical Contracting Association (ECA) for residential and commercial installations. Valid membership with Competent Person Schemes (CPS) operators like NAPIT, NICEIC, and SELECT is essential for regulatory compliance.

Maintaining Authorised Installer Status
Regularly submitting claims within the past 2 years and remaining part of the Competent Person Scheme aids in retaining OZEV approval.

Responsibilities as an Authorised Installer:
  • Guide customers on grant criteria and install only approved chargepoint models
  • Ensure thorough testing and compliance with safety requirements for all installations
  • Do not charge customers for the grant in advance or inflate costs to benefit from higher grant levels
  • Ongoing Data Requirements:
    • Ensure all installations can communicate usage data to a back-end management system as per OZEV guidelines
    • Address signal strength and data supply issues promptly to prevent authorisation revocation
Notifying Distribution Network Operators (DNOs)
Notify relevant DNOs of all installations to evaluate grid load and network reinforcements.
Maintain evidence of notifications to prevent authorisation revocation.

Penalties and Audits
Adhere strictly to scheme requirements to avoid penalties or revocation of authorisation.
Expect on-site audits to ensure compliance with grant requirements and standards.
